"It was a great event and fun to be part of. The onlookers were a fantastic crowd and I hope they learned some good tips and handy  ideas about cooking one of my favourite Northumberland ingrediants."

Our staff are Northumberland's First Tourism Ambassadors

August 2014

Lindisfarne Inn staff are among the first to become Northumberland County Council's brand new Northumberland Ambassadors.

Ready to  boost tourists’ experiences in the county just in time for the peak summer season, staff from The Lindisfarne Inn received their title by undertaking ten ‘Know your Northumberland’ training courses. The courses provided businesses which come in contact with tourists with crucial area knowledge to enhance visitors’ stays, encourage them to spend more quality time in the county and hopefully make repeat trips.

The Know your Northumberland courses were organised by Northumberland County Council in partnership with Northumberland College who provided accredited qualifications. New courses have been added to the programme and will begin in the autumn.

An awards ceremony was held at Northumberland County Council to present the Northumberland Ambassadors with Northumberland College accredited certificates.

Out of those 69 participating in the courses, seven received the gold Northumberland Ambassador qualifications, with eight reaching silver qualifications and 11 receiving bronze.

The Northumberland Ambassadors will receive a logo for their website and a certificate acknowledging their achievement.  As well as a badge to proudly mark their status, the Northumberland Ambassadors will have the knowledge to inspire visitors staying within our county and celebrate Northumberland’s many assets.

Keith Liddell, chief executive officer of the Inn Collection Group which owns The Lindisfarne Inn said: “We were delighted to work with Northumberland County Council to support the ‘Know Your Northumberland’ initiative. We invested in staff from The Lindisfarne Inn at Beal, The Bamburgh Castle Inn at Seahouses and The Hog’s Head Inn at Alnwick to take part in the familiarisation trips. They found learning more about the amazing attractions on our doorstep – and a little further afield in the county – fascinating and are already sharing their new-found knowledge of the county with visitors.”

“Our aim is to make sure visitors at our inns not only get the most out of their stay in Northumberland, but that they return and share their experiences with others.”

A variety of Northumberland based businesses took part in the courses including; Northumberland accommodation providers; café and gift shop owners; tourist information staff; local producers; tourism association members; Beadles from the Sanderson Arcade and Nordic walking and historical guides.  The courses ran from February until May.

Northumberland County Councillor Val Tyler policy board member for culture and community infrastructure said:

"Congratulations to everyone who has taken part in the ‘Know your Northumberland’ courses.  It is excellent to see that so many businesses in contact with tourists within Northumberland taking part to help visitors to our county to enjoy our attractions and stay longer.”

New menu launches

June 2014

Head chef Marcus Van Luttmer has created a sizzling summer menu    for Lindisfarne Inn diners to enjoy.

As well as traditional pub favourites, like the inn's ever-popular Steak and Ale Pie, Marcus has introduced some twists too, including a Wild Boar Burger from the grill for the new menu below.

The Lindisfarne Inn welcomes families, and youngsters have their own new menu too.

And as well as the new menu, The Lindisfarne Inn boasts a daily changing specials board too.

Marcus, who hails from Cornwall, and who has worked in the kitchen of seafood guru Rick Stein, is keen to bring in as many local flavours as possible.

"Really, the specials board depends on the ingrediants we are able to source, so you can expect to see local fish and shell fish dishes too.

"We're keen to work with local suppliers such as Doddington Dairy for their superb icecream. We're always on the look out for new suppliers, so please do get in touch with us about your produce."

Our staff are on their way to becoming Northumberland ambassadors.

We’ve teamed up with Northumberland County Council and Northumberland College in a partnership project as part of an initiative to help visitors get more out of their stay in Northumberland.

Our aim is to enhance their visitor experience while in Northumberland, and encourage them to spend more quality time in our county and to return in the future.”

Northumberland County Councillor Val Tyler, policy board member for community infrastructure and culture said:
